13 Cards (Web Animation)
One apartment. Eight personalities. Zero personal space.note

13 Cards (or 13 Карт) is a Russian animated cartoon web series created by Fedor Comix, directed by Vanya Tale and animated by Phoenix Productions that premiered on April 13th, 2024 . The series serves as a sequel to Fedor Comix's earlier work, Fëdor x9, and an Alternative Continuity to the Land of Kings comic.

The story is about a young college student named Fëdor who receives a set of magical playing cards from a fortune teller. These cards can summon clones of him that are based on different aspects of his personality. There’s Gabriel, the eccentric and inquisitive jack of diamonds; Kuromaku, the rational and intelligent king of clubs; Dante, the lazy and philosophical king of diamonds; Felix, the cheery yet short-tempered jack of hearts; Waru, the cunning and malicious jack of spades; Brolly, the timid and quiet jack of clubs; Romeo, the vain and perverted king of hearts; and Spade, the aggressive and power-hungry king of spades. Fëdor ends up summoning these eight clones to help him with day-to-day activities. From there, Hilarity Ensues.

The series playlist can be found here in Russian via this link while the English dub can be viewed here.

The series also contains two non-canon episodes, "Clones Tell a Story" and "Clones Get a Job", which were released in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

13 Cards contains examples of:

  • 20 Minutes into the Past: Episode 8 reveals that even though season 1 aired in 2024, the events of the season took place in 2014, the year when the real-life Fëdor Nechitaylo was 18 years old (the present age of Fëdor and the clones in the series).
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: While helping Romeo chop vegetables, Spade also slices up the cutting board and some nearby dishes with the knife, to Romeo's utter confusion.
  • Actually Pretty Impressive: In "Clones in the Soup", Kuromaku tries to fix a bad batch of soup, and he asks for salt and water to dilute the soup since it's gotten too thick. Waru pranks him by handing him baking soda and vinegar instead, causing the soup to fizz and overflow. Even though Kuromaku is irritated, he admits that he's impressed by the knowledge of chemistry that went into the prank.
Kuromaku: I'm angry, but I am impressed at your basic knowledge of chemistry.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In Waru's Image Song, he and Joker are shown to be on good terms with one another. In the show, episode 7 reveals that Waru is utterly terrified of Joker, to the point where Joker speaking to him makes his glasses crack from the stress and causes him to respond that he's had enough in a completely monotone voice. Episode 9 hints that Joker may also be afraid of Waru.
  • Age Lift: In Fëdorx9, Fëdor and the clones were all 14 years old, with Fëdor being an overworked 9th grader that summoned the clones to help him with schoolwork. They're still teenagers in "Clones Tell a Story", where Fëdor is in 10th grade, and "Clones Get a Job", where the manager that hired them to work at his restaurant is punished for using child labor. However, in the canon events of the 13 Cards animated series, Fëdor and the clones are 18, and Fëdor is attending college.
  • Alternate Continuity: To Land of Kings, where the clones are sent back to the Card World following the events of Fëdorx9 and stay there.
  • Amusing Injuries: The show uses a lot of slapstick comedy, with characters getting injured either through unfortunate accidents or fights with each other. The injuries in question don't last very long and are never serious.
  • Angry Collar Grab: Felix does this to Fëdor for questioning why the animation he made in "Clones Make a Comic" has only three frames.
    Felix: I made an animation.
Fëdor: Why is it only 3 frames?
Felix: DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO MAKE CARTOONS?!
  • Animesque: The character designs have some anime influence, and the series makes use of common visual tropes that are commonly found in anime, such as Giving Up the Ghost and Thunder Shock.
  • Anvil on Head: Spade is hit on the head by an anvil multiple times in the Image Songs. It's also how he is killed in the game of Mafia played in "Mafia".
  • Art Shift:
    • Every time Spade is shown coming up with ideas for his comic in "Clones Make A Comic", the animation of the show changes to an anime style.
    • The art style in "Clones In The Soup" changes drastically in each flashback depending on which character is narrating the events of the day.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The theme song contains a scene where the hearts and the clubs are being looked down on menacingly by a giant Spade and Waru, establishing the threatening and imposing nature of the members of the spades suit.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Despite the clones' constant fighting, there's signs here and there that they do genuinely care about one another. For example, in "Clones order Pizza", we find out that Kuromaku wrote both Spade and Waru into his will, and in episode 6 Kuromaku and Spade are concerned when Romeo seems to have injured himself.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • In Spade's Image Song, he offers Felix a hug. Felix gladly accepts and hugs him back, and then Spade uses the opportunity to suplex him.
    • After Fëdor throws Felix's cockroaches out of the apartment's window, Waru approaches Felix and remarks that he must be sad, and he kneels next to him and lays a comforting hand on his shoulder... only to tell him that cockroaches only live for six months.
    • In "Clones Clean Up the House", Romeo is shown wearing Censor Suds when he suggests making clothes out of the soap bubbles flooding the apartment, to the disgust of the other clones, but it's revealed that he had clothes on underneath.
    • In "Clones Make a Comic", Spade realizes that he can't put his ideas on paper since he can't draw, and Brolly has the opposite problem of not being able to come up with ideas. Sitting at the same table, they both realize that they need a partner and say this aloud... and walk off in opposite directions instead of asking each other. Subverted in that, later in the episode, they do team up.
    • Romeo raises a knife in the air with a crazed expression while chopping vegetables for soup, giving the impression that he will chop the vegetables quickly and violently. Instead, he slowly and meticulously slices them.
    • After chopping the vegetables for Romeo, Spade points the knife at him, making it look like he's threatening him. Turns out he just wanted to return the knife that he borrowed.
    • After Dante sets the onions on fire while making soup, Waru throws some water in his direction. The audience is meant to believe that he was aiming for Dante; in reality, Waru was aiming for the fire, since water makes grease fires worse.
    • Kuromaku asks Dante for salt and water to dilute the soup since it was too thick, and is handed these ingredients. After he adds them to the soup, the soup starts to fizz, and he realizes that the person who handed him the ingredients was not Dante but Waru, who swapped them for baking soda and vinegar.
    • In "Clones Order Pizza", Fëdor turns out to be the delivery boy when the clones order a pizza. Felix tries to tip Fëdor, but doesn't have any money for the tip, so he asks Romeo. Romeo, in turn, asks Fëdor if he can borrow some money, and this seems to be setting up a gag where he tips Fëdor with his own money. Instead, Romeo takes the money and slams the door in Fëdor's face.
    • When Brolly is Taken for Granite in "Mafia", Waru exclaims that they "can't just leave him like this"... and they should paint him green instead.
  • Bedmate Reveal: The Stinger of "Clones Make a Comic" has Fëdor getting into bed and freaking out after finding Dante next to him.
  • Big Ball of Violence: Used to show when the characters are embroiled in physical fights with one another (most often Spade, Waru, and Felix).
  • Big "NO!":
    • Spade shouts this when Brolly says that they could be sent back to the Card World due to Waru flooding the apartment with soap bubbles as a prank in "Clones Clean Up the House", and immediately begins sucking up all the suds with a vacuum.
    • Fëdor shouts this as Kuromaku's coffee is about to spill onto his comic in "Clones Make a Comic".
  • Big "WHAT?!": Kuromaku responds with this when Felix suddenly remembers that he didn't turn off the washing machine, right before Fëdor goes into the bathroom to wash his hands in "Clones Clean Up the House".
  • The Blade Always Lands Pointy End In: Spade throws a knife in "Clones Make a Comic", which lands with its pointy end perfectly stuck in the sofa at a 90 degree angle.
  • Bland-Name Product: The bathroom in Fëdor's apartment contains a bag of Dide brand detergent, a reference to the real life Tide detergent.
  • Blank White Eyes:
  • Blatant Lies: In episode 8, when Romeo is making food, Waru sneaks into the kitchen and eats the eggs he's using. Romeo asks where the eggs went, and after letting out a loud evil laugh (with a mouthful of eggs), Waru claims not to know where the eggs are.
  • Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce: In "Clones in the Soup", Waru adds a few drops of this to the soup when nobody is looking, intending to prank Spade. Spade finds it so delicious that he adds the whole bottle to the soup. Waru tastes the soup, wondering if it wasn't spicy enough, and breathes fire.
  • Blind Shoulder Toss: In "Clones Make a Comic", Spade tosses his knife over his shoulder without looking. The knife conveniently lands next to Waru, who needed something to put chocolate spread on his bread.
  • Bookends: The plot of "Clones Make a Comic" begins with Waru messing up Fëdor's comic by spilling coffee on it and ends with Waru messing up Gabriel's comic by spilling coffee on it.
  • Bottle Episode: The entirety of "Clones Make a Comic" takes place within the confines of Fëdor's apartment.
  • Bound and Gagged:
    • During his Image Song, Waru has Felix, Brolly, and Romeo tied up and gagged, and sends them floating on a raft full of garbage down the river. Gabriel is also on the raft, but he isn't bound and gagged.
    • After spending the entirety of "Clones In The Soup" coming up with new ways to mess up the soup that the other clones have been making, Waru himself ends up tied up and gagged with duct tape to prevent him from interfering while they cook up a new batch.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: The starting animations for the interactive episodes on Okko TV's Telegram channel have each of the clones directly addressing the viewer and greeting them.
  • Break the Comedian: Episode 7 ends with Waru feeling emotionally drained and quite distressed by his failed prank, to the point where his reaction to Joker proposing a deal is a flat "I've had enough." and The Stinger shows him lying wide awake at night while the others are peacefully sleeping.
  • Break the Haughty: In episode 7, the other clones discover Waru's plan to prank them far in advance and decide to prank him in return. Waru falls for their prank hook, line, and sinker. While he pretends to not have been scared, and everyone believes him, the end of the episode shows that Waru is horribly distraught over having been beaten at his own game.
  • Brick Joke:
    • Gabriel accidentally makes the chandelier fall off the ceiling near the beginning of "Clones Clean Up the House". Near the end, Fëdor expresses joy over the clones having dusted the chandelier, which is still lying broken on the floor.
    • When Waru enters Fëdor's bedroom to use the computer in "Clones Make a Comic", he finds Dante asleep in Fëdor's bed and calls him out on it. The Stinger of the episode has Fëdor getting into bed and freaking out upon finding Dante there.
  • Camera Obscurer: In episode 8, Felix, Dante, and Brolly are watching the fireworks at night. Felix tries to record them, only for Brolly to realize too late that Felix forgot to take the lid off the camera.
  • Cartoon Juggling: Romeo is seen doing the shower variant with the ingredients he's about to add to the soup in "Clones in the Soup".
  • Can't Take Criticism: Spade begins taking out a knife to threaten Fëdor with when the latter criticizes his and Brolly's comic.
  • Car Meets House: Inverted in the theme song, which includes a shot of Waru driving a car through the wall of the apartment from the inside of the building.
  • Censor Suds: Romeo suggests making clothes out of the suds that overflowed the apartment in "Clones Clean Up the House", much to the disgust of the other clones. Subverted since it turns out he was wearing actual clothes underneath.
  • Cheeky Mouth: Used with pretty much every character, fitting with the Animesque art direction.
  • Clones Are People, Too: Even though all eight clones were made from Fëdor, they all have different personalities, hobbies, and interests. This is lampshaded in the theme song as well as in "Clones in the Soup", where Spade expresses confusion over the fact that none of the others knows how to handle a knife like him despite them all being clones of the same person.
  • Color-Coded Characters: The clones each have a signature color.
    • Brolly's is blue/cyan.
    • Felix's is yellow.
    • Spade's is purple.
    • Waru's is green.
    • Romeo's is pink.
    • Dante's is red.
    • Gabriel's is brown.
    • Kuromaku's is gray.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: A hallmark of the members of the spades suit. Spade is a violent Psycho Knife Nut who will go to extremes to achieve his goals, and Waru engages in random acts of cruelty purely for his own amusement, all of which is Played for Laughs.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • In "Clones Make a Comic", Fëdor's book has been taped together, since it was destroyed in the previous episode.
    • Gabriel is found spending time with Fëdor's elderly neighbor in "Clones Make a Comic", since he befriended her in "Clones Clean Up the House".
  • Crazy-Prepared: Not only does Fëdor take the TV remote with him before leaving the house in "Clones Make a Comic", but he also unplugs the TV and takes the cord with him so Waru can't use the buttons on the TV to change the channel.
    • The "gorgonzola" that Romeo uses in "Clones in the Soup" is the same cheese that Fëdor threw back in the fridge in Clones Make A Comic because it stunk.
  • Curse Cut Short: Fëdor shuts Waru's mouth with his hand before he can finish a swear word in "Clones Make a Comic".
Waru: Cartoons are cool, comics are sh-
  • Damned by Faint Praise: Spade and Brolly have the best comic in "Clones Make a Comic" according to Fëdor, but that is only because the other comics aren't that much better (Waru's is clearly plagiarized, Romeo's is implied to be pornographic, and Felix's is an animation with only three frames). Gabriel ends up winning the contest with a last-minute entry that's actually good.
  • Denser and Wackier: Though not without its more serious moments, 13 Cards is a lot lighter and more comedic in tone than Fëdor x9 and Land of Kings, which is even lampshaded in Kuromaku's Image Song. For example, in Land of Kings, Waru establishes a fascist dictatorship where his subjects are forced to venerate him and people are imprisoned for petty reasons, and Felix uses stun guns on people who aren't being happy enough. On the other hand, in 13 Cards Waru mostly engages in harmless pranks like adding extra hot sauce to soup, "accidentally" spilling coffee on Fëdor's comics, and eating the ingredients Romeo is using for cooking, and Felix's obsession with happiness and strong desire to control other people are toned down.
  • Destination Defenestration: Spade throws Waru through the window in "Clones in the Soup" because the latter lightly slapped him on the arm.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • When the clones divide the apartment amongst themselves in episode 1, Felix gives Waru the bathroom as a punishment. Waru taking over the bathroom as his territory enables him to prevent anyone else from being able to use the toilet, much to their annoyance.
    • In "Clones Clean Up the House", Waru tries flooding the apartment with soap bubbles to turn the apartment into a "Green Kingdom", having forgotten that soap bubbles are actually white and only look green to him because his glasses have tinted lenses.
  • Disproportionate Retribution:
    • In Clones In The Soup, Waru lightly slaps Spade on the arm because Spade laughed at him after he ate spicy food. Spade's response is to throw Waru out of the apartment window.
    • In Clones Order Pizza, the clones order a pizza. Their delivery boy turns out to be Fëdor, and not only does Romeo not tip him, but he asks Fëdor for money and slams the door in his face, and agrees with Spade giving Fëdor a poor rating. When Fëdor gets home, he throws Romeo off the balcony.
    • Also in Clones Order Pizza, Waru asks Kuromaku what nutrients are there besides carbs and protein, and Kuromaku starts listing them off. Waru throws a pillow at Kuromaku as he's coming up with the list and tells him to shut up. Kuromaku is so enraged by this that he starts strangling Waru.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Dante remains completely calm despite all the chaos around him, even when the entire apartment is flooded with soap bubbles in "Clones Clean Up the House" and when his hair is set on fire in "Clones in the Soup".
  • Domestic Appliance Disaster: Twice in "Clones Clean Up the House".
    • Thanks to Waru swapping out laundry detergent with bath foam, Felix doing the laundry lead to the apartment getting flooded with so much suds, it ended up looking like a white void.
    • The vacuum cleaner explodes the second time Spade tries to use it to clean up the soap bubbles, spilling its contents all over the apartment and forcing everyone to clean it up again.
  • Dub Name Change: The English dub changes Zontik to Brolly, Varu to Waru, and Pik to Spade.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Joker appears as a drawing in the end credits of "Clones Make a Comic", long before his actual appearance in episode 7.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • In the two non-canon episodes, Dante has a more chaotic personality and Felix's Hair-Trigger Temper and Control Freak tendencies are much more noticeable.
    • In "Clones Get a Job", Fëdor leaves Felix in charge of the others. In the canon show, Fëdor is never shown assigning a specific clone to be in charge while he's gone, though he seems to have expected Kuromaku to stop the others from causing chaos in "Clones Clean Up the House". The other clones also obey Felix's orders to get a job, including Spade and Waru, who frequently ignore or challenge Felix's ideas in the canon show.
    • Also in "Clones Get a Job", Waru initially takes his job as the janitor seriously and only switches to being mischievous when the customers ruin his nice clean floor. In the canon episodes, Waru avoids doing any work whatsoever, and even tries to mess with everyone else while they're doing housework.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite his general disregard for other people and utter lack of manners, Waru is still nonplussed to see Dante sleeping in Fëdor's bed in "Clones Make a Comic", and he doesn't hesitate to call Dante out on it.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: In episode 7, Felix and Brolly want to find out where Gabriel goes all day, so they attach a video camera to his head. Gabriel just so happens to find Waru planning out his big prank, allowing Felix and Brolly to figure out what's happening by watching the camera feed.
  • Exact Words:
    • Spade says he would rather live in squalor than obey Fëdor, so Waru dumps the contents of the trash can on Spade's head to help him live in squalor. Spade is not amused.
    • The Stinger of "Clones Clean Up the House" shows that since Fëdor just said to "clean the apartment" but didn't specify which apartment, Gabriel cleaned up the neighbor's apartment instead.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: The clones have white pupils in the shape of the symbol of their card suit, which are visible when they express strong emotions. Brolly has club-shaped pupils, Felix and Romeo have heart-shaped pupils, Spade has spade-shaped pupils, and Gabriel has diamond-shaped pupils.
  • Expository Theme Tune: The intro explains the main premise of the show, which is that Fëdor received a deck of magic playing cards from a fortune teller and used said cards to summon eight clones of him with different personalities.
    Magic stack of old cards
    From the fortune teller
Eight clones summoned to this world
    And every one of them
A different look, a different hook
A different outlook on what's good...
  • Face Palm: Fëdor's reaction to seeing the disastrous state of the apartment upon arriving home at the beginning of "Clones in the Soup".
  • Failed Attempt at Scaring: In episode 7, Waru tries to prank the other clones by making it seem like he's summoned an evil spirit to their apartment with an ouija board. The other clones accidentally find out about the plan in advance, and Waru doesn't do a great job of hiding the fact that he's the one moving the planchette, so the plan fails to scare them.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: In "Clones in the Soup", Waru adds Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce to the soup to prank Spade, but Spade is Unaffected by Spice and finds it delicious, so he adds more. Waru tries the soup afterwards, thinking it must not be spicy enough, and breathes fire.
  • Force Feeding: The other clones try to force-feed the soup to Waru as punishment for messing with everyone in "Clones in the Soup", since the soup is now beyond ruined and barely edible. He manages to kick the spoon out of Felix's hand, so the soup ends up landing in Gabriel's mouth instead.
  • Foreshadowing: In episode 7, the expression on Felix's Expressive Shirt remains a smiley face regardless of what emotion he's exhibiting at the moment. It turns out he was pranking Waru the whole time.
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: In the starting animation for Waru's mini-episode on Okko TV's Telegram channel, he informs the viewers that he can see them and starts tapping on the screen.
  • Fractured Fairy Tale: "Clones Tell A Story" revolves around the clones telling Fëdor the story of Little Red Riding Hood at bedtime, but everyone puts their own spin on the story. For example, Brolly changes the ending so the grandma takes a taxi to visit Red and her mother and they all enjoy lunch together with no mention of the wolf whatsoever, Romeo tries to make the story sexually explicit, Kuromaku complains that wolves can't talk, and Waru gives a detailed graphic description of the wolf killing and eating the grandmother.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus:
    • In the theme song, Joker's silhouette briefly appears behind Fëdor when he receives the cards from the fortune teller for the first time.
    • In episode 8, when the video of Romeo and Felix trying to remove Waru's glasses while he's sleeping changes to the next video, the television briefly flashes a shot of Waru without his glasses (albeit with his eyes closed).
  • Get Out!: The Stinger of "Clones Make a Comic" has Fëdor finding Dante in his bed and screaming at him to leave the room.
  • Giving Up the Ghost: Brolly is seen doing this in the background of "Clones in the Soup", and in his concept art.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Spade, Dante, Romeo, and Kuromaku are shown as silhouettes with glowing eyes in the flashback where they try to force-feed Waru the soup in "Clones in the Soup".
  • Got Volunteered: Subverted in "Clones in the Soup". The clones wonder who should try the soup that they've made (which is ruined, mostly thanks to Waru) and Waru volunteers Brolly to try it; however, the other clones are mad at Waru since his pranks have injured or inconvenienced them, so they choose him instead of Brolly.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: In episode 6, Waru throws Gabriel at Spade, who retaliates by hitting Waru with Felix.
  • Here We Go Again!: "Clones Clean Up the House" ends with the apartment being covered in paint once more thanks to the vacuum cleaner exploding, forcing Fëdor and the clones to clean up the whole mess again.
  • How We Got Here: "Clones in the Soup" begins with Fëdor coming home to a scene of absolute chaos and demanding to know what happened, prompting the clones to explain the events of the day so far.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • Spade refuses to help clean the apartment since Fëdor is threatening him and the other clones. Felix reminds him that Spade himself recently threatened Fëdor with a knife.
    • When Fëdor says he's going to the store to buy supplies to deal with "the pests" (as in the cockroaches from Felicia), Waru jokes that Fëdor is talking about the other seven clones, despite the fact that Waru himself is the only clone who goes out of his way to intentionally antagonize and pester other people.
    • In "Clones Make a Comic", Waru is shocked to see Dante sleeping in Fëdor's bed and calls him out on it. As Dante points out, Waru happens to be plagiarizing art at the time, which is also a blatant and disrespectful violation of someone else's property.
    • In Waru's narration of the events of "Clones in the Soup", Felix yells at Waru for accidentally spilling juice on the table, and then Felix himself proceeds to spill the rest of the juice in Waru's glass onto the table.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: With the exception of "Mafia", every episode starts with the word "Clones".
  • Image Song: Labeled as Meme Songs, each clone has their own image song that delves into their personalities.
  • Improvised Weapon: In "Clones in the Soup", Spade and Waru get into a fight and duke it out with various objects they found nearby, like a guitar and a plastic shovel.
  • Insane Troll Logic:
    • In Waru's narration of "Clones in the Soup", Felix blames him for causing global warming by spilling a few drops of juice on the table.
    • In "Mafia", the clones play mafia and Felix accuses Waru of being the mafia because he has the face of a criminal. As Waru points out, they're clones, so everyone present has the same face.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Even though Felix doesn't have the pressure of running a kingdom on his shoulders in this continuity, he still has an uncomfortable sleeping position and thus ends up with Exhausted Eyebags anyway, just like in Land of Kings.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Gabriel befriends one of Fëdor's neighbors, an old woman that lives downstairs.
  • Ironic Echo: When Fëdor sees that Spade has built a wall to defend himself against Felix's kingdom in "Clones Clean Up the House", he tells Spade not to be so dramatic. Later, when Fëdor sees that Felix's kingdom is home to a swarm of cockroaches and begins to panic, Spade sarcastically tells him not to be so dramatic.
  • Irony:
    • A Spanish dub-exclusive example in "Clones in the Soup". One of the flashbacks depicts Felix as a rat who attacks Waru, despite the fact that "la rata de Waru" ("that rat Waru") is a nickname that Felix uses for Waru in the Spanish dub.
    • In episode 7, Waru meticulously plans out a prank involving a fake Ouija board and is excited to pull off what he thinks will be his best prank yet. It’s also one of the only pranks the other clones see through far in advance and ends up being poorly executed, making it Waru’s most failed prank to date and enabling the other clones to give him a taste of his own medicine.
  • It Amused Me: The primary reason for Waru's antics is that he enjoys pranking the other clones for fun.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • In "Clones Make a Comic", Waru is made to hold up the TV antenna as punishment for ruining Gabriel's comic while the other clones watch an entire season of Gabriel's favorite show.
    • In "Clones Order Pizza", Romeo is thrown off the balcony by Fëdor for not tipping him for the pizza delivery and taking some of his money and slamming the door in his face.
    • In "Clones Get a Job", the clones are hired by a restaurant owner who takes advantage of their gullibility to make them work for cheap without a contract or insurance. One of the customers at the restaurant turns out to be a health inspector, who punishes the owner thanks to Kuromaku alerting him to the poor quality of the food, and the owner is also punished for using child labor since the clones are minors.
  • Laughing Mad: Fëdor ends up this way in "Clones Clean Up the House" after the apartment is flooded with soap bubbles a second time, and Spade's attempts to fix it make the vacuum cleaner explode and cover everyone with paint.
  • Laugh Track: Dante plays one on a tape recorder after making a pun in "Clones Clean Up the House".
  • Lethal Chef: The soup that the clones make in "Clones in the Soup" ends up being horrible. Even not counting the unfortunate effects of Waru's pranks, Romeo dropped the cutting board in with the vegetables and added "gorgonzola" of questionable origin, Dante burned the onions, and Spade put the entire bottle of hot sauce into the soup instead of pouring the hot sauce out of the bottle into the soup. The Stinger also shows that they made a strange rainbow-colored macaroni, which Fëdor refuses to eat. This is also the reason why they have to order pizza in "Clones Order Pizza", since none of the clones is a decent cook.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Unless the occasion calls for different outfits, Fëdor and the clones are usually shown wearing the same clothes in every episode.
  • Literal-Minded: In "Clones in the Soup", during Gabriel's philosophical monologue about soup as a metaphor for the universe, he asks whose soup it really is. Brolly, taking the question literally, explains that the soup from the start of the episode was his, and he made the mistake of leaving it unattended for a few minutes.
  • Little "No": In the Russian dub of "Clones in the Soup", this is Waru's reaction to realizing that the other clones intend to force him to eat the soup that he ruined. However this is not the case in the English dub, where he mutters a terrified "oh, god" instead.
  • Karma Houdini: In "Clones Clean Up the House", Waru swaps the detergent with bubble bath while Felix is doing laundry and floods the apartment with soap bubbles, which almost gets the clones sent back to the Card World. In "Clones Order Pizza", the clones order pizza, and Waru locks Kuromaku out on the balcony (on a cold winter night) to steal his slice of the pizza and also steals his belongings since he was in Kuromaku's will. After eating Kuromaku's slice of the pizza, he also tries to take the last slice for himself instead of leaving leftovers for Brolly and Dante. He faces absolutely no consequences for any of these things. He also doesn't get punished in either of the non-canon episodes, where he intentionally scares Brolly for fun, destroys Fëdor's TV for no apparent reason other than causing trouble, and coats the floor of a fast food restaurant with teflon spray to make it slippery.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: In episode 6, Spade and Kuromaku reject Waru from their band for no particular reason (implying that their reason for doing so was their dislike of him).
  • Kill It with Fire: In episode 8, Felix shows everyone a video archive he made with recordings of them. Spade tells him to burn it.
  • Literal Split Personality: Essentially the main premise of the show, Fëdor ends up summoning eight clones from the magic playing cards he got from the fortune teller, all of which have distinct personalities.
  • Man Bites Man: When Spade and Waru get into a fight in episode 6, Waru bites Spade on the arm.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Dante is completely unfazed by any severe injuries he receives, like his hair being set on fire by Waru in "Clones in the Soup" and getting stabbed in "Mafia".
  • Mood Whiplash:
    • Felix excitedly shows Fëdor his kingdom, Felicia, that he built out of household items. Fëdor initially thinks it's cute... until he realizes it's full of cockroaches, which he is terrified of.
    • After Felicia is destroyed by Fëdor throwing it out of the window, Waru approaches a distraught Felix and seemingly tries to comfort him. Turns out his method of comforting Felix is reminding him that the cockroaches wouldn't have lived much longer due to their lifespan.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The theme song includes a scene of Dante setting a meal on fire while working at a fast food restaurant, which Brolly rushes to extinguish. This is a reference to the non-canon episode "Clones Get a Job", in which the clones get jobs at a fast food joint and Dante deliberately burns the food, forcing Brolly to intervene and put the fire out.
    • In "Clones Clean Up the House", Felix and Waru call their respective "kingdoms" Felicia and Waruland. These are also the names that they assigned to their actual kingdoms in Land of Kings. Waru also describes Waruland at the beginning of the episode, and it's a dead ringer for Waruland in the comic.
    • Also in "Clones Clean Up the House", Fëdor threatens to send the clones back to the Card World, which was how Land of Kings began.
    • In "Clones Order Pizza", Waru raids Kuromaku's closet and tries on his clothes after locking him out on the balcony. The jacket that he steals is the same one that Kuromaku used to wear in Fëdorx9.
    • In "Mafia", Felix accidentally addresses Spade as Waru out of habit and asks him "Right, Waru?" This is a reference to the first chapter of Land of Kings.
  • Never My Fault: At the beginning of "Clones in the Soup", when everyone is yelling over each other, Felix blames Waru for what happened and Waru is mad that Felix would blame him for everything. This is despite the fact that most of the current situation is indeed Waru's fault, and was done intentionally.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Waru was given the bathroom as his territory as a punishment when the clones divided up the apartment. It's never revealed what he did to deserve a punishment in the first place.
    • When Fëdor returns home and demands to know what's going on after seeing the apartment covered in paint, Felix tells him that the clones had a great idea. Fëdor's response is "Again?", indicating that this isn't the first time the clones have had an idea that caused trouble for Fëdor.
    • Felix points out that Spade threatened Fëdor with a knife in response to the latter refusing to do chores.
Spade: Fëdor is threatening and manipulating us.
Felix: Didn't you threaten him with a knife recently?
    Spade: THAT'S DIFFERENT!
    • We never find out how or where Romeo obtained the "gorgonzola" that he put in the soup in "Clones in the Soup".
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Fëdor says his clones are terrible, but as Waru points out, they are HIS clones, therefore, he does ultimately forgive them since Fëdor is no better than his clones.
    Fëdor: Guys, haha, you're terrible.
Waru: Well we are your clones.
Fëdor: Well...then I am no better...
  • An Odd Place to Sleep:
    • As shown in The Stinger of episode 7, since the apartment only has one bed and there are nine people living there, some of the clones have to sleep in bizarre places. For example, Romeo sleeps in the bathtub, and Felix sleeps on a row of chairs in the living room.
    • Dante is shown sleeping under Fëdor's bed in episode 9.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Felix's reaction when he realizes that he put bubble bath in the washing machine instead of laundry detergent in "Clones Clean Up the House", thanks to Waru's machinations.
    • Romeo's and Felix's response when Fëdor goes to wash his hands after returning home in "Clones Clean Up the House", since they forgot to turn off the washing machine and Fëdor is heading for the bathroom.
    • At the beginning of "Clones Make a Comic", Brolly walks into the living room to find it empty aside from Dante and Kuromaku, and delightedly turns on the TV to watch cartoons. He panics when he finds the others behind him, screams, and curls up.
    • In "Clones in the Soup", this is Waru's reaction when he realizes that the other clones are going to make him eat the soup that he ruined.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: Felix is prone to this whenever he realizes that he and the others have done something that will anger Fëdor.
  • Once More, with Clarity: In episode 7, Waru asks how the other clones managed to figure out his ouija board prank. We then see a montage of flashbacks to earlier points in the episode from other characters' perspectives: Gabriel witnessing Waru practicing the prank beforehand (with Felix and Brolly also seeing it through a camera they attached to Gabriel's head), Romeo listening to Waru's evil monologue while waiting to use the bathroom, and the clones noticing Waru diving under the table to move the planchette.
  • Ouija Board: Waru turns the cutting board into a ouija board in episode 7 as part of a prank where he uses a magnet to move the planchette.
  • Performance Anxiety: In episode 6, Brolly is shown to be a talented musician, but he is incapable of performing in front of others due to stage fright.
  • Pet the Dog: At the end of "Clones in the Soup", the other clones (minus Waru, who has been Bound and Gagged) help Brolly make a new batch of soup, this time doing it the correct way.
  • Pixellation: In "Clones Make a Comic", the comic drawn by Romeo (which is implied to have NSFW content in it) is pixellated. Fëdor remarks that he should restrict Romeo's access to the internet.
  • Playing Card Motifs: Given how the clones were summoned from playing cards, which is reflected in the shape of their pupils. To be more specific...
    • Dante is the King of Diamonds
    • Gabriel is the Jack of Diamonds
    • Romeo is the King of Hearts
    • Felix is the Jack of Hearts
    • Brolly is the Jack of Clubs
    • Kuromaku is the King of Clubs
    • Spade is the King of Spades
    • Waru is the Jack of Spades
  • Psychological Projection: In episode 7, when Waru is trying to get the lights back on, he asks Gabriel to stand closer to him, claiming that Gabriel will get scared standing there by himself when in fact it's Waru who's scared of standing alone without Gabriel by his side.
  • Pun: After the vacuum cleaner explodes and covers everyone with paint at the end of "Clones Clean Up the House", Dante says "Color me surprised!" and plays a Laugh Track from a tape recorder.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Felix's cockroach kingdom is what ultimately causes Fëdor to lose it and threaten to send the clones back to the Card World if they don't clean up in "Clones Clean Up the House".
  • "Rashomon"-Style: Each clone has a different recollection of how exactly things went down in "Clones in the Soup", and their flashbacks are often contradictory and outright nonsensical.
  • Remote Control Ruckus: "Clones Make a Comic" starts off with the clones fighting over the TV remote since they all want to watch a different show, prompting Fëdor to organize a comic-making contest so the winner can choose what show they're going to watch.
  • Running Gag:
    • Spade threatening people with knives.
    • In the Image Songs, Spade being hit on the head with an anvil.
    • Waru trying to turn everything green, typically by painting it.
  • Screaming at Squick: Fëdor reacts this way when Felix makes a miniature kingdom inhabited by cockroaches.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here!:
    • In "Clones Order Pizza", after Kuromaku begins to violently attack Waru, Dante and Brolly decide to head out for a walk and buy themselves some shawarma instead of waiting at home for the pizza to arrive. Later in the episode, after Felix, Spade, and Waru get into a Big Ball of Violence inside the apartment, Kuromaku decides to join in on the walk.
    • At the end of "Mafia", when Fëdor convinces the clones to clean up the mess they created in the apartment, Waru can be seen quietly sneaking away from the scene.
  • Security Cling: When Fëdor threatens to send the clones back to the card world in "Clones Clean Up the House", Felix hugs Spade in fear. Spade punches him for doing so.
  • Skewed Priorities: Romeo has a couple instances of this.
    • In "Clones Get a Job", when Fëdor asks why nobody has bothered to help clean up the apartment, Romeo explains that he has "more important things to do", that is, looking at women in a magazine.
    • In "Clones Order Pizza", Romeo complains about being hungry since he had the smallest piece of pizza, but refuses to finish eating the crust on his slice even though he's hungry because he doesn't like the crust.
  • Similar Item Confusion: Some of Waru's pranks involve swapping the items that someone else is using for a similar-looking item that will produce a different effect, and nobody notices that the items have been swapped until it's too late. For example:
    • In "Clones Clean Up The House" he replaces the laundry detergent with a similar-looking bubble bath while Felix and Romeo are doing laundry.
    • In "Clones In The Soup" he hands Kuromaku baking soda and vinegar when the latter asks for salt and water to add to the soup.
  • Something We Forgot: Towards the end of "Clones Clean Up the House", the clones manage to remove the soap bubbles from the apartment and make it look clean, and Fëdor is delighted. That is, until he heads to the bathroom to wash his hands and Felix and Romeo realize that they forgot to turn off the washing machine, causing the apartment to be flooded again when Fëdor opens the bathroom door.
  • Spiders Are Scary: In the episode "Clones Tell a Story", Waru chases Brolly around the apartment with a fake spider on a stick, which Brolly is terrified of.
  • Spill Stain Sabotage: Waru does this twice in "Clones make a Comic". He spills Kuromaku's coffee onto Fëdor's comics to mess with him after seeing him panic about a few drops of coffee almost fall on his comic, and then intentionally spills his own coffee onto Gabriel's comic at the end.
  • Spit Take: When Felix announces that the clones should get a job in "Clones Get a Job", Kuromaku spits out his coffee. It lands in Spade's hair, to Waru's amusement.
  • Split Screen: Used to show Spade and Brolly coming to the same conclusion about needing a partner to draw their comics with in "Clones Make a Comic".
  • Start My Own: In episode 6, Spade and Kuromaku reject Waru from their band. Incensed, Waru decides to start his own band with Felix (who was also rejected since the band already had Dante as their drummer) and Brolly (who had severe stage fright and couldn't complete his audition for Spade's band).
  • String Theory: Kuromaku makes a board with red strings connecting different points as he tries to uncover how to make the perfect comic in "Clones Make a Comic".
  • Stuffed into a Trashcan: Spade throws Waru into the trash for emptying the trash can onto his head in "Clones Clean Up the House".
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: In the "Clones Get a Job" episode, the clones try to get a job, but are hit with the realization that due to being clones that were summoned using magic, they have no legal documentation and are technically not citizens of the country they reside in, so they're forced to resort to a dubious job with poor working conditions and questionable management since that's the only place that will hire them.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Waru's narration in "Clones in the Soup" begins with him insisting that he was going to get a glass of juice from the fridge "with no ulterior motive".
  • Take Our Word for It: In "Clones Make a Comic", Gabriel's comic is given the highest of praises by everyone, with Felix even saying that the entire world should read it. And then Waru spills coffee on it before the audience can see it.
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: In episode 7, Waru plans out a prank where he tricks the other clones using a fake Ouija board that he controls with a magnet. The other clones find out about the prank by accidentally seeing Waru planning it out or overhearing his monologues about it, and pull a prank of their own where they pretend the apartment really is haunted to scare Waru.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • In "Clones Clean Up the House", Kuromaku assures Brolly that the other clones could not have possibly made things worse while cleaning up the apartment. They open the door to find the apartment flooded with soap bubbles from floor to ceiling because of Waru's latest prank.
    • In episode 8, Fëdor is delighted that the whole episode went by without anything getting destroyed. Upon hearing this, Waru whips out a laser pointer and points it at Fëdor, prompting Gabriel to attack him.
  • This Is My Side:
    • In "Clones Clean Up The House", the apartment is messed up thanks to Waru, Felix, Romeo, Spade, and Gabriel using paint to draw lines all over the apartment to divide it amongst themselves.
    • In Spade's Image Song, he and Waru try to divide space between themselves. Waru wants to divide it in half, but Spade draws a square around where Waru is standing and declares everything outside the square to be his.
  • The Tooth Hurts: Following a scuffle with Waru in episode 8, Felix spits out a tooth.
  • Traced Artwork: An in-universe example occurs in "Clones Make a Comic", where Waru "makes" a comic by simply tracing manga off the internet onto his paper. Fëdor sees through this right away when it's presented to him.
  • Twinkle Smile: Romeo gives one of these before starting his narration in "Clones in the Soup".
  • Unaffected by Spice: In "Clones in the Soup", Waru adds hot sauce to the soup before Spade tastes it as a prank. Spade not only enjoys the hot sauce, but adds the entire bottle to the soup. When Waru tastes the same soup, he starts to breathe fire.
  • Unishment: In "Clones Clean Up the House", the clones split the apartment amongst themselves, and Waru is given the bathroom as a punishment. He ends up greatly enjoying this because it gives him the power to prevent anyone else from being able to use the bathroom.
  • Unreliable Narrator:
    • The series opens with Waru narrating a highly inaccurate version of Land of Kings, in which everyone else is depicted as lame and Waru himself is depicted as cool, with Waruland being depicted as an amazing kingdom that people yearn to get into. The scene shifts to reveal that none of the events mentioned above even actually took place, and in reality Waru has just occupied the bathroom and declared it his "kingdom".
    • In "Clones in the Soup", all of the clones recount a different version of the day's events, including some that seem highly improbable, making it difficult to discern the actual truth.
  • The Un-Reveal: In episode 8, Felix and Romeo try to remove Waru's glasses while he's sleeping so they can see what his eyes look like. Except it turns out that he's got more glasses underneath, so his eyes remain hidden from view. A Freeze-Frame Bonus reveals that Romeo eventually managed to remove all the glasses, but Waru's eyes are still closed since he's asleep.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: The plot of "Clones in the Soup" is kicked off by Brolly leaving a pot of soup unattended on the stove. The results include Spade and Waru getting into a huge fight, Felix's hand being injured, Kuromaku's glasses getting broken, and Dante's hair being burned off.
  • Weirdness Censor: Nobody the clones meet ever questions the fact that they all look nearly identical aside from their hairstyles and clothes (and in Spade and Gabriel's cases, their eyes). The old lady downstairs is under the impression that Fëdor and the clones are simply identical nonuplets.
  • White Void Room: The apartment ends looking like one of these after getting flooded with bubbles in "Clones Clean Up the House".
  • Wimp Fight: Fëdor comes home in "Clones in the Soup" to find Waru and Spade punching each other very lightly and failing to actually injure each other.
  • Wrecked Weapon: In "Clones Make a Comic", Spade's character in his and Brolly's comic has his sword destroyed.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain:
    • Fëdor comes home to what appears to be a perfectly clean apartment in "Clones Clean Up the House", only to open the bathroom door and have the apartment end up in a worse condition than it was in when he left the house because Waru tricked Felix into doing the laundry with bubble bath instead of detergent and Felix forgot to turn off the washing machine.
    • At the start of "Clones Make a Comic", Spade almost accidentally spills Kuromaku's coffee onto a comic that Fëdor has been drawing, but the spilled drops narrowly miss the page. Fëdor is relieved, but then Waru intentionally spills the coffee onto the comic purely to mess with Fëdor.
    • At the end of "Clones in the Soup", after Brolly's soup is ruined by the other clones, they work together to make new soup for him. However, the new soup ends up tasting horrible anyway and has to be flushed down the toilet instead of eaten, and the episode ends with Brolly crying as Felix comforts him.
