Yinmahu (饮马湖, meaning Yinma Lake , pennant number 834),[1] formerly Donghaidao (东海岛, meaning Donghai Island, pennant number 868),[2] is the sole Type 711[3] (NATO reporting name Modified Hansa Sonderberg class)[4][5][6] semi-submersible ship of the People's Liberation Army Navy.
She is often compared to the American Expeditionary Transfer Dock.[2]
Design
[edit]Yinmahu was a modified version of a container ship with a length of 175.5 meters (575 ft 9 in), a width of 32.4 meters (106 ft 4 in) and a displacement of 20,000 long tons (20,000 t).[2] The ship is able to transport one Type 726 or Zubr-class LCAC[2] or three smaller boats/tugboats.[3] The deck can also carry cargo. The ships is intended to be base of amphibious operations and to resupply islands in the South China Sea, along with emergency repairs of other boats.[2] The deck can also be used to land helicopters.[1] Her top speed is 14 knots (26 km/h; 16 mph).[1] The deepest Yinmahu can submerge is 6 meters (20 ft).[3] Her well deck, which can submerge, has a total area of 3,000 square meters (32,000 sq ft).[3] There is also a daughter boat on board to transfer sailors of smaller vessels Yinmahu carries onto the ship itself.[3]

History
[edit]She was commissioned as Donghaidao in July 10, 2015 into the South Sea Fleet and was built at Huangpu Shipyard .[2]
In July 11, 2017, Donghaidao participated in the establishment of the People's Liberation Army Support Base in Djibouti.[7]
In 2022, she was renamed to Yinmahu, with her pennant number changing to 834.[1]
