Unreleased Audio Product Spotted in Apple's Codebase

Apple today updated its codebase with a numerical reference to an unreleased audio product. We don't know what the product is, but based on where the information was found and rumors about upcoming devices, it could be the AirPods Pro 3.

All of Apple's AirPods and Beats headphones have specific Bluetooth ID numbers, such as 0x2024 (8228) for the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C. Apple recently updated code related to device syncing, and that code included a list of all current audio devices, plus one extra Bluetooth ID.

The extra identifier, 8239, is not the number that Apple uses for any of its existing AirPods or Beats headphones. No other information about the device is available, except for its existence in Apple's codebase. Given ‌AirPods Pro 3‌ rumors, it would make sense for the number to correspond to the upcoming earbuds, but there is also the possibility that Apple is working on refreshed Beats of some kind that we don't know about yet.

Rumors suggest that Apple is working on the ‌AirPods Pro 3‌, with a launch planned for later this year. The ‌AirPods Pro 3‌ could have a refined design, improved audio quality and ANC, and possibly health related features like heart rate monitoring.

Well it amused me. I’m too am getting quite fed up with the performance coached, over-rehearsed style of their presentations these days. So artificial. Bring back the live, edgy demos of the old days. (Tin hat on)

Apple Rebuilds Codebase from the Ground Up to Support Product 8239: You’re Not Ready, But That’s Never Stopped Us

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA — In a bold move that absolutely no one asked for but everyone will pretend they understand, Apple today announced it has completely rebuilt its codebase from the ground up to support Product 8239—an unreleased audio device so advanced, it makes your current headphones look like tin cans on a string.

This foundational rewrite touches every Apple platform—because why stop at mildly inconvenient when you can break everything in the name of innovation? The new architecture is designed to harness the full magical potential of Apple Intelligence™, the newly rebranded AI suite that now pretends to know what you want before you even doomscroll to find it.

Siri has been “reimagined” to work seamlessly with Product 8239. By “seamlessly,” we mean she still interrupts at the worst possible time but now uses 30% more natural sighing. Paired with Vision Pro, Product 8239 will allow users to see their music, feel their notifications, and question their life choices in spatial clarity.

And of course, Genmoji support is baked in. Because nothing says premium audio like a cartoon unicorn reacting to your crying playlist in real time.

“Rewriting a codebase from scratch isn’t easy,” said Apple’s VP of Platform Regret Engineering. “But when you’re building the future—Product 8239 specifically—you don’t slap duct tape on Swift. You nuke it and start over.”

No one outside of Apple knows what Product 8239 actually is, but rumors point to it being somewhere between a spatial audio halo and the crown jewel of your next midlife crisis. Either way, it will definitely come in Space Gray and definitely not come cheap.

Product 8239. Built for Apple Intelligence from the ground up, and from ear to ear.
