Only 7 days left for the Spider Stories Kickstarter! I wrote about it last week on LoveAt1stByte.com. This is one of the more interesting projects that was destined to be turned into a film (and if the creators get more support, eventually an animated series!). The project is currently 75% funded and needs the final big push towards the $25,000 goal! Please check it out!

I reviewed and did a short interview...Expand this post »

The Italian Floklore of Christmas: La Befana..

Although Italy has "Babbo Natale", (Father Christmas) there is another legend that visits the children.  La Befana.an Italian Folklore legend.
The magic of Christmas  always holds a mystical quality of tradition and folklore, for many over the world...

That is neat stuff right there. I like to learn about the different traditions around the world. Recently I got to play "The Devil" for St.Nickolas day as my friends family is from Czechoslovakia.

Having grown up on local folktales, I find it interesting to see the Aswang folklore studied in a non-Filipino perspective.

I remember reading the Maximo Ramos book from the library in high school. Anyone knows where I can get a copy of that these days?

It's called "Creatures of Philippine lower mythology" by Maximo D. Ramos.

Pretty interesting! Shows like Lost Girl and even Supernatural had an episode featuring "aswang"

On amazon, there's a book called "creatures of the night" BY Maximo D. Ramos http://www.amazon.com/The-creatures-midnight-Maximo-Ramos/dp/9710606859/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346002319&sr=8-1&keywords=maximo+d.+ramos

The Festival of folklore and European culture was first born in 1964, and it has traveled Europe ever since, taking place every year in a different city. This year, Padua , one of the Veneto region’s truly lovely cities – with its Prato della Valle, Scrovegni Chapel, and Basilica of Saint Anthony, among other sites – has been chosen to host. Many have already arrived from all parts of Europe to celebrate and display their traditions, songs and dances.
250 folkloristic music and dance groups from around the Continent will participate in Europeade 2012, for a total of 4,000 individual folkloristic artists.

Pagan Idolatry Receives Local Government Funding

Fairy Trees are best thought of as a portal where Na Daoine Maithe (The Good People) flit from their world to ours. Irish people have a healthy respect for Na Daoine Maithe (also known as Na Daoine Beaga - the Little People - but you'd better not let them hear you call them little), and despite the best efforts of Rome and The Enlightenment, the legacy...Expand this post »

My Little Pony meets Nuckelavee. Friendship is I WILL BLIGHT YOUR CROPS AND LIVESTOCK WITH MY POISON BREATH AND DRAG YOU INTO THE OCEAN WHERE I SHALL DEVOUR YOUR FLEASH

I was so happy to find this thing at Comic Con last year. Nuckelavee was one of my favorite monsters as a young girl. I remember reading about it and thinking, “Ohmygawd! Why isn’t there a picture? I need to see this!”
