  • Almanac of American Politics (password required, see the reference desk) provides capsule summaries of states, congressional districts, congressional redistricting, biographies of elected officials (President, Vice-President, Governors, Senators, and Congressional Representatives), election results, campaign finance, basic demographic data, and other information. The 1998, 2000, and 2002 editions are available online.
  • Academic Universe CU provides access to state statutes and case law from state appellate and high courts. Use the "State Legal Research" menu.
  • Business Filings Databases--annotated links to business filings by state
  • Council of State Governments: This site provides many useful resources, including a directory of state government officials, recent state election results, the text of model state legislation, a legislative discussion forum, issue updates, the text of "State of the State" addresses and links to state government Internet sites.
  • Data (Statistics) Web Sites for the 50 States
  • Election Results by State links Secretaries of State and/or state Divisions of Elections nationwide. In those cases where on-line election results are not available, a link to the appropriate State office has been established. Provided by the Federal Voting Assistance Program.

  • National Conference of State Legislatures: Provides information on the November 7, 1995 elections nationwide, composition of House and Senate by state, legislative control of both houses by state, and surveys of various issues by state including term limits, adolescent health, education, energy and fiscal policy.
  • National Governors Association provides a number of online publications on topics such as education, economic stimulus, Medicare, and other topics. In addition, it provides policy positions on federal initiatives and legislation.
  • Public Records a guide to reference materials and Internet sites.
  • State and Local Documents Task Force links to State and Local Government Websites.
  • State Capital Universe CU provides access to bills, statutes and constitutions, digests of state law, proposed and final regulations, legislative directories, and news. Although the service covers all fifty states, some types of information are not available for all states. For example, proposed regulations for the State of Colorado are available online, but the final regulations are not available because of copyright restrictions.
