CBS News is changing the name of its CBSN streaming service to simply “CBS News.”
The streaming service also will name the local news streaming services to branding such as CBS News Denver or CBS News Boston. Neeraj Khemlani, president and co-head of CBS News and Stations, announced the name change at a town hall on Wednesday. He said that it was “another example of how we are bringing our divisions together.”
He also unveiled a mock up of a new studio for the streaming service, repurposed from the former CBS This Morning space. The morning program moved into a Times Square studio earlier this month and was rebranded as CBS Mornings.
CBSN launched in 2014, and has since added local versions in a dozen major markets, with a 13th, in Miami, also in the works. The local services are offered in Los Angeles, Baltimore, Boston, the San Francisco Bay Area, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Denver, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth and Sacramento.
Wendy McMahon, president and co-head of CBS News and Stations, noted that the streaming service last week was able to call the California recall race before AP and other outlets, saying that “the collaboration across streaming and stations bolstered all of our platforms.”

Well it was really spectacular. I really hope CBS would unload or trade three non-duopoly markets in Tampa, Seattle and Atlanta, all three were The CW affiliates.
While I think the CBS This Morning revamp to CBS Mornings has been a train wreak I was hoping they use the old CTM set as a new home base for CBSN like a new version of msnbc old secaucus studio.
The centralization of CBS News around CBSN makes sense for a future of FAST and the end of broadcast tv which is coming soon.
Only issue with CBSN is that they need to hire some better talent like Chris Jansing etc. NBC News has better graphics and talent, ABC has good talent ok graphics and not as much shows. With a dedicated studio CBS stays ahead but they need better anchors.
I agree and may switch to this in the mornings. Love the excellent reporters and reporting of the CBS news division. But as of today throw in the towel on watching CBS Mornings until they get a new main anchor. The non-stop interruptions, talk overs and opinions are beyond annoying and detract from the show. Have to move on. When Gayle is gone I will be back.
